Outdoor Recreation Alliance (ORA) received a $40,000 grant in 2018 to support the installation of a bicycle playground at Lueth Park. The project was part of a larger effort by the City of La Crosse to revitalize Lueth Park by repairing the existing skate park, beautification efforts, and removing an inadequate baseball field.
The bicycle playground includes a large asphalt butterfly-shaped pump track. A pump track is a course made of mounds and berms that users zip around generating speed by pumping their body rather than pedaling.
The Lueth Park pump track can be used with bikes, skateboards, scooters, and other wheeled recreation, including adventurous stroller and wheelchair users.
The bicycle playground at Lueth Park is a treat for local riders, as there’s no other park like this in a 600-mile radius.
