Local nonprofits are leading the way (as usual) with innovative solutions and forward-thinking programs that tackle big challenges and open new doors for our community. Whether creating inclusive spaces, guiding families through tough conversations, or introducing bold tools for therapy, local nonprofits prove that they’re not just keeping up — they’re moving us all forward. Here’s how a few recent grantees are redefining what’s possible.

Many people have a basic will and a plan for their resources, but there’s so much more that is left to family, often without a clear idea of what the person may have wanted or had in place already. That’s why Causeway Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers created “Before the After.” Open to the community and free of charge, the program helps open communication around what can be a difficult topic.

By purchasing a MiraColt equine motion simulator, HorseSense, Inc., will be able to expand its adaptive horseback riding program by welcoming all who are interested in the therapeutic benefits of riding. This innovative equipment mimics the natural gait of a horse, offering similar therapeutic benefits to individuals who may be unable to ride due to various physical limitations that make riding unsafe. By incorporating this simulator into its program, HorseSense can serve more youth, adults and military Veterans with disabilities in our community.

The FIERCE Foundation is creating a Children’s Business Fair to teach entrepreneurship and financial skills to young participants and foster their confidence and economic independence. The initiative supports the FIERCE Foundation’s mission by promoting equality, encouraging underrepresented groups through education, and enhancing community engagement.

The Onalaska Enhancement Foundation is introducing the “Every Child’s Dream” initiative to create an inclusive playground. The project addresses a gap in our local infrastructure by ensuring that children of all abilities can access the developmental benefits and joy of play. “Every Child’s Dream” represents a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that every child, whatever their abilities, can play, learn, and grow.
