Brock Family Scholarship Fund
In Tom’s former capacity as executive vice president of Altra Federal Credit Union, and with Jan’s service on the Centering Onalaska and Onalaska Education Foundation’s boards, they each delivered their fair share of scholarship awards at the annual OHS scholarship night. Tom and Jan loved the excitement on students’ faces as they were honored academically and recognized with a scholarship. And with the Brock’s gratitude for a district that gave so much to not only their daughters, but several exchange students as well, they felt starting a scholarship fund was something they could do to give back.
“We started the Brock Family Scholarship to recognize the school district’s teachers and students, and as our way of saying thank you,” shared Tom and Jan.
After an excellent academic foundation in the Onalaska School District, both Katharine and Elizabeth went on to graduate from college, get advanced degrees and get good jobs; one as a doctor at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and one as Sports Product Innovator at Nike. Tom and Jan are hopeful their scholarship will help others have similar opportunities.
Tom and Jan spent several years growing the scholarship fund while the girls were still in high school and college. Once it got to the desired level in 2018, the fund started awarding an annual scholarship. They appreciated not having to fund it all at once.
The Brock Family Scholarship will provide an annual scholarship to an Onalaska High School student who plans to study medicine, science, athletics, or business.
