Grant for Community Policing Officer on the North Side

The La Crosse Community Foundation is pleased to announce a grant of $75,000 with potential renewal for two additional years for the Community Policing Officers in La Crosse. Officers assigned to the north side neighborhoods will have a chance to develop relationships with kids, adults, home owners, and businesses; these relationships will enhance the sense of stability and support.

Officers will build on the already wonderful relationships that have existed in North Side- Depot Neighborhoods for generations: residents of North La Crosse, the neighborhood association, North La Crosse Business Association, Caledonia Street merchants, Logan Middle and High schools, the Boys and Girls Club, and the new north side elementary school will benefit from this Community Based program.

The La Crosse Police Department implemented the Community Policing philosophy years ago, in which the Department works with the community to help solve problems and issues. With this grant, the same officers will work in the same neighborhood and provide a personable presence as they get to know the individuals in the neighborhood. Rather than seeing various officers in the neighborhood, residents will work with the same officer for any incident. The officers will work with all of the neighbors to look at all the issues in the area in a more focused approach.

La Crosse Community Foundation is proud to support making our neighborhoods safer. Besides this grant, the Foundation, in the last year, has awarded neighborhood grants for the Paint-up Fix-up Program in the Washburn Neighborhood, a program to repair homes in the Powell-Poage-Hamilton Neighborhood through a collaborative grant to Habitat for Humanity and WisCorps, and a Family Night at the Boys and Girls Club Mathy Center which helps bring families and neighbors together. Other grants include community gardens and a matching grant to the La Crosse City Foundation for cameras downtown.
