Viterbo University Center for Professional Learning and La Crosse Community Foundation last night awarded Certificates in Nonprofit Leadership Development to 16 area nonprofit leaders. The cohort gathered at Viterbo to discuss their capstone projects and celebrate completion of the program.
A joint program of the foundation and the university, the nonprofit leadership development program covers strategic planning, fundraising, volunteer management, ethics and values, board governance, and other aspects that prepare participants to be more effective leaders.
“The Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership Development prepares nonprofit professionals as they set out to provide critical services and build healthy communities within our region,” said Nicole Van Ert, director of the Center for Professional Learning at Viterbo University. “Our facilitators and mentors contribute their deep level of understanding and insight in today’s complex environment.”
Jamie Schloegel, CEO of La Crosse Community Foundation, which also funds the program, said the foundation is pleased to see it thriving.
“This training equips our nonprofit leaders with the skills they need to be more effective, which in turn strengthens our nonprofits. Stronger nonprofits can provide better services and support, leading to a more vibrant and supportive community. Every leader who grows through this program contributes to a stronger La Crosse,” said Schloegel.
Presented through real-world case studies, small group discussions, and interactive presentations, one morning a month over nine months, the program is designed for prospective or current board members of all experience levels, and church board members, staff, and administrators.
“It has been a privilege to get to know each participant and the important work they do to strengthen our communities,” said Alycia Larson, Viterbo Center for Professional Learning coordinator, who manages the CNLD program and has gotten to know the participants well. “We have a group of highly engaged professionals who are eager to foster partnerships for the greater good, every day. It’s been an honor to help develop each of them further as nonprofit leaders.”
